It’s always fun when holiday specials start around this time of year – from Halloween to Thanksgiving, Christmas to New Year – our favourite shows start embracing the elements of the seasons and draw us in with special episodes to get us into the spirit of whatever we’re due to celebrate next. So, this month, expect some of them to crack out their Halloween best, and expect some repeats of classics gone by. I’ve always been a fan of a Halloween special or two and here are five of my favourites (in no particular order of course, I’m not that fussy!)
One Tree Hill Season 4, Episode 4
It’s Halloween in Tree Hill and everybody’s celebrating at TRIC, with special guest band Fall Out Boy. The masquerade ball gives Haley the chance to win Nathan back, while Lucas keeps trying to convince Brooke to be exclusive. Peyton decides to face her new mother and get to know her. Dan tries to use blackmail to become mayor but things don’t turn out the way he thought they would when Deb gets in his way.
Buffy, the Vampire Slayer Season 4, Episode 4
The gang find themselves in a real-life house of horrors while at a Halloween frat party, in which a fear demon feeds on their individual fears. Meanwhile, Anya needs Giles to help her save Xander when she realizes something is amiss.
Pretty Little Liars Season 2, Episode 13
It’s the Halloween before Alison disappeared and where all of the secrets and lies began for Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer.
Modern Family Season 2, Episode 6
Claire loves Halloween and is gearing up to spookify the Dunphy house for the trick or treaters. She gives each family member a role to play, but none of it goes quite right… Cameron can’t shake a traumatic childhood experience and hates the holiday, Mitchell has had a terrible day at work, and Gloria is acting weird after Jay and Manny teased her about her accent.
The Big Bang Theory Season 1, Episode 6
The guys are invited to Penny’s Halloween costume party. During the party, Leonard has a run-in with Penny’s ex-boyfriend.
