If you’ve been following along with us for a while, then you’ll know I suffered a miscarriage back at the end of September last year. It devastated me and totally knocked me for six, so we were understandably overjoyed but super anxious when I fell pregnant again in November. I’m now at 21 weeks and finally feeling like I can start to relax and enjoy growing this sweet baby inside me. Here’s a little about my journey so far:
I had a pretty rough first 12 or 13 weeks at the start of this pregnancy – feeling nauseous and exhausted pretty much the entire time. I was also feeling worried and anxious about how our little one was doing, so it really wasn’t the most enjoyable time for me. We booked ourselves in for a couple of private scans early on to check everything was okay and managed to see a teeny, tiny heartbeat at just 6 weeks. The 9 week scan was when we actually got to see a baby shaped outline and the heart was still going strong. The relief I felt at seeing that tiny blurry shape was like nothing I’d felt before and I eagerly anticipated any chance we had to see baby growing and wriggling around in there. The first trimester ended with our dating scan, which gave us a date of August 13th to expect to meet our babe.
My first trimester symptoms started to mostly subside once I’d started week 13-14, with just some tiredness and occasional nausea remaining. By a couple of weeks later I felt mostly back to my pre-pregnancy self and only my slightly expanding waistline was an indicator of a growing baby inside me. We had another private ultrasound so we could take both grandmothers along to see and were given an early indication of the sex of our little one. We let our siblings know whether they might expect to have a niece or a nephew but mostly kept it to ourselves for a couple more weeks until we could get a second opinion at our anomaly scan around about 20 weeks. Once that scan revealed that all our baby’s organs were healthy and growing well, we asked about the sex. Our sonographer pretty confidently told us that the little one we are expecting is a sweet little GIRL.
And that takes us up to a couple of weeks ago and we are starting to prepare our lives and our home for our daughter. We are in full-on clean and tidy mode and hope to get started our baby girl’s nursery in the next few weeks. I’m trying my best to resist all the tiny, pretty clothes that I see as I know we’ll receive a ton of stuff, but baby girl shopping has become one of my most favourite pastimes. I’ll keep you updated on how things go over the coming weeks and months and can’t wait to share the rest of this journey with you.
